4. HEAR OF / HEAR FROM

El verbo “hear” significa “oír” pero si lo acompañas de otras preposiciones, su significado puede variar. No es lo mismo decir “hear of” que “hear from”.

Por ejemplo, si decimos “hear of” nos referimos a conocer la existencia de algo o alguien, saber quién o qué es.

"I’ve never heard of that singer"

"Nunca he oído hablar de ese cantante"

Ahora bien, si decimos “hear from” estamos hablando de tener noticias o estar en contacto con alguien.

Por ejemplo:

A: Yesterday I heard from Amy, she called me and told me all about her new job.

B: Did you hear from your mother?

A: No, I haven’t called her yet, so I don’t know what she’s up to today.
