14. SAFETY / SECURITY

Tanto “safety” como “security” se pueden traducir por “seguridad”.

What’s the difference?

“Safety” se refiere a la protección contra accidentes o enfermedades; cosas que pueden suceder sin la intención de nadie. Por ejemplo:

“Putting on the seatbelt in a moving car is a safety precaution”

“When driving, safety first!”

“There’s a storm coming, so for safety reasons, stay home tonight”

“Security” se refiere a la protección contra el crimen o básicamente el daño intencional de otras personas.

“The security at the mall is very strong”

“Please call “security”, this person is dangerous.”

“In this case we are referring to a security department.”
